Went up to San Fransisco for a Heartsent event. Stayed with [livejournal.com profile] silverkun who also graciously provided us with transportation during our stay. Thanks, Rey. You rock.

The event was a meet and greet with Heartsent families who have and are in line to adopt a child from Taiwan. Heartsent works through St. Lucy's Orphanage and they've had a partnership since 2001. There were a lot of people there with their children ages ranging from 7 weeks to early and mid teens. The kids were all rambunctious, happy and trying to gather as many of the 3-400 balloons (helium filled) as they could lay their hands on. Lots of fun to watch.

The lady we were there to meet was Sister Terese(sp?) from the order of nuns who run St. Lucy's. She was the person who stepped in when the earlier director was diagnosed with cancer (sadly dying in 2003) and got St. Lucy's through a rough stretch where everything had to be recertified and relicensed. Very quiet, very demure, but as Donna says: 'Don't mess'.

Met up in the evening with a bunch of friends. Lela [livejournal.com profile] nytshaed and her daughter, [livejournal.com profile] murphymom and her daughter, Rey, [livejournal.com profile] purplexitty, [livejournal.com profile] digitalsidhe and [livejournal.com profile] feyandstrange; plus me and Donna made a crew. Let's just say that finding food in the evening in J-town was a challenge. Still food and crepes were found and consumed and a wonderful time was had by all. If only there were more time to visit. Ah well...

*Still need to find a REALLY good recipe for a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster... The bug has bitten I'm afraid.*

Made it home in one piece, very tired and full of food. The amusement for this morning was when my job called asking if I were coming in today. I cleared it with my boss on Wednesday... Sill Boss must have forgotten, but it is in his little, black book so I'm covered.

Also, a Big Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] magaliiiii. Sorry we missed you this trip.

In other adoption related news, we had our travel meeting on Friday and met up with the head of Heartsent, Val, who said that our final decree should come through this week. So travel to Taiwan is imminent.

Sadly, travel to AOD next month is not going to happen. We'll be spending the time with Xander and in fact may be out of the country on that weekend.

Finally, two amusing pieces of news this past week:

1) Former Attorney General, Alberto Gonzalez, can't seem to find a job. He claims it is due to the economic slow down. (Ja, right!) I say it is because he is likely to be going to jail in the future. My opinion only however.

2) Former FEMA Director, Michael Brown (as in 'you're doin' a heck of a job, Brownie') had to be rescued from his Colorado home as he was too stupid to evacuate when there was a forest fire heading his way. Reports that a trailer from New Orleans is being sent up to him have not been confirmed. :P

That's it. I'm going to watch football and play Civ for a while.
