So endeavoring to move my stuff off of Live Journal. Wish me luck.

A friend took his life this evening. [ profile] mountain_hiker had been very troubled with several legal and emotional challenges before him. I don't agree with his choice, but I hope he is at peace.

I'm getting awfully tired of burying friends.

I keep reading how the Dems are in trouble because things haven't turned around in the 18 months since President Obama took office.

Well, think about this for a minute. FDR came into office with an economy in as bad a shape or worse and was able to push his programs through because he had the backing of his party. The Dems now are all afraid of the shit Faux News puts out because it might cost them their jobs.

Fuck Fox News! They are a bunch of fucking liars. And I dare them to say I'm wrong! They lie about being a News organization seeing as they have admitted in court that they are in fact an entertainment group and as such are protected by the 1st Amendment when they spurt their Opinions over the air.

People, we need to protect our country from the people who drove it off the road in the first place. We do not need more tax cuts for the corporations and the very wealthy! They got their share and more under Bush I&II.

Don't give in to fear or believe that your vote won't count. That's what Carl Rove and his ilk are counting on.

It took FDR the better part of 3 terms to straighten out the Great Depression. President Obama deserves the same patience. And he needs a Congress that will let him act.

Please do not vote for the Party of NO. If you do, things will get far worse in the next two years and it will be the neo-cons to blame for it once again.

I remember being in England and watching Dallas and Dynasty because they were a little piece of home. (Dynasty was pronounced with a short 'i' sound in the UK) He also was the voice of Charlie from Charlie's Angels, both the TV show and he returned to do the voice for the movies.

From what I have heard and read, the man was a class act his entire life. *sigh* Yet another icon from my youth has left the stage. Rest well, John and give Farrah a hug. I bet she's really glad to see you.

Story Here
unclejimbo: (cloud giving the finger.)
Here's what the Dems can do to save their worthless asses.

First, dump the crappy Senate Health Reform Bill. It's worthless and without a 60 vote super-majority, they can't even get it into reconciliation.

Second, kick Joe Leibermann in the balls, then chuck his ass out of the Democratic Caucus. He doesn't vote with us anyway. Let him suck up to Rush-Fucking-Limbaugh for all I care.

Third, Fire Harry Reid. We need someone with a spine! Not this wishy-washy little piss ant.

And finally, quit being afraid of the god damned Repugnicons. The reason people are pissed is because you fuckers were too damned timid when you actually had real power. Bush and his cronies would have pissed themselves (and fucked us even harder) if they EVER had that kind of majority.

Well, tomorrow's the big day. We go before the court and complete all the last items to change, Xander's legal name, issue him his new 'birth certificate' here in California and sign off on the last documents to make Xander our own for now and always.

Me, I've been down this week with pneumonia, a little gift left over from the hamthrax. Gotta love it.
Still coughing up stuff, but am now on antibiotics and have an albuterol inhaler so hopefully I won't sound terribly awful during the proceedings.

Still need to to a year in review post for 2009, let's just say I'm glad Chimpy Mc Cokespoon George Bush is out of the White House.

My prayers go out to the people of Haiti in their time of need. I also hope that Pat Robertson has a massive bleed in that tiny brain of his. Blaming this catastrophe on a 'deal with the devil' from back in the 19th century. Just die, you fucker.

Well, Christmas is over and I think Xander is just about ready to head back to school. Poor little guy is getting cabin fever. I think he misses his friends.

He's looking forward to his "share day" when he gets back. His only problem, which toy does he bring first? He is now the proud owner of an Optimus Prime Transformer, a REALLY large firetruck, and Iron Man that transforms into an airplane and a Spider Man that transforms into a helicopter. Add this to LEGOs and a Nintendo DS, well, he had a good Christmas.

Best of all was that he slept peacefully all night long. I think he understands that Donna and I are his family now and that he's not going to be going away ever again. I am very happy about that. It hurts when he's that afraid. I'm glad to see that he's feeling more comfortable about things.

I found a new food processor for Donna, as well as a Tom Tom GPS for her car. She promptly found the file to add John CLeese's voice to the device which made the drive home from SIL's place much more entertaining. ("Bear Right, Beaver Left. Bear Right, Beaver Left") It was even more amusing because Xander wanted to know where the voice was coming from. We kept telling him that it was coming from the box mommy was holding, but I don't think it quite clicked. Ah well, another funny story to lock away for the future.

Donna surprised me Christmas morning with a flat screen HD-TV for our room. Only 19", but more than ample for our needs. We hooked up one of our DVD players as well, so we can watch movies when Xander is asleep. I am also the proud owner of a PSP. Pretty neat, now all I need is to find some movies in that format.

So next on our plates it the hearing in 3 weeks to make things official. Then Xander will be officially Alexander-Paul as opposed to Yang I. All we need now is someplace to get matching Hawaiian shirts to wear to court.

Also need to plan for next year... SIL gets the gag gift next. I'm still thinking wood.

Xander's first Christmas here in Torrance.

So far, so good. We were a bit worried about how he'd react to all the people coming over for our annual Christmas Open House, but with all the kids here and our Wii Sports Resort game, he was a little champ. Even took his nap and went to bed only a little past his usual time. (We were ready for him to stay up until 10 pm or later)

Videoed him opening his presents this evening. The big hits, hit PokeDex and his new Firetruck. The big question now is how he sleeps. He's peaceful so far but I'm still waiting for the night terrors. It was the pattern after his birthday, hopefully he knows he's here to stay and there will be no problems.

Tomorrow morning should be interesting. Optimus Prime is now waiting for him in the living room.

Need sleep now.
unclejimbo: (not saying a damn thing)
Just finished wrapping a present for my great nephew... 3 layers of duct tape. (Took me an hour too!)

I did warn him it was his turn this year. I hope he remembers to bring something to help him get it open.

Next year, SIL I think. Something in pine with wood screws... I can just imagine the look on her face when I give her a crowbar to open it with...

Yes, I am a bad boy...

Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Whereas recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world,

Whereas disregard and contempt for human rights have resulted in barbarous acts which have outraged the conscience of mankind, and the advent of a world in which human beings shall enjoy freedom of speech and belief and freedom from fear and want has been proclaimed as the highest aspiration of the common people,

Whereas it is essential, if man is not to be compelled to have recourse, as a last resort, to rebellion against tyranny and oppression, that human rights should be protected by the rule of law,

Whereas it is essential to promote the development of friendly relations between nations,

Whereas the peoples of the United Nations have in the Charter reaffirmed their faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person and in the equal rights of men and women and have determined to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom,

Whereas Member States have pledged themselves to achieve, in co-operation with the United Nations, the promotion of universal respect for and observance of human rights and fundamental freedoms,

Whereas a common understanding of these rights and freedoms is of the greatest importance for the full realization of this pledge,

Now, Therefore THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY proclaims THIS UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS as a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations, to the end that every individual and every organ of society, keeping this Declaration constantly in mind, shall strive by teaching and education to promote respect for these rights and freedoms and by progressive measures, national and international, to secure their universal and effective recognition and observance, both among the peoples of Member States themselves and among the peoples of territories under their jurisdiction.

Hey Neocons and Bushies. Read THIS! It's not QUAINT! It's not OUT DATED! It is WHO WE ARE AS HUMAN BEINGS!

Is it any wonder why people hated the Bush when he was pResident of the United States. Of course, I seriously down W ever read anything more difficult than "My Pet Goat".

And today, President Obama accepts the Nobel Peace Prize. Yeah, it probably is a thumb in the eye to the Bush Administration but it is also a vote of confidence that he will work to improve things and hopefully not allow this country to go down that path again.

Now if only he'd convene a War Crimes Trial. If Mr. Cheney wants to keep running his mouth, that would be the ideal forum.

My brother Richard welcomed his son into the world today. Zachary Richard Bell was born at 8:05 AM CT in St. Louis. Mom and child are doing fine. Brother... Well we'll see.

Congrats, Rich! Enjoy being a daddy!

Happy Birthday, [ profile] varna. Hope its a great one.

Xander and I went to the LA Auto Show yesterday. Spent almost 3 hours there which resulted in a late lunch and nap, but otherwise was wonderful. Xander loves cars and loves sporty cars the best. And there sure were a lot to choose from.

We hung out largely at the Ford exhibit, but did get our picture taken in a Dodge Viper. (See icon) The new Ford Fiesta is a really nice small car. I wish Ford was making it a few years ago here in the States because we would have seriously thought about buying one (or two).

Very strange being in the convention center without all the cosplayers from AX. Came away with lots of swag and Xander had a great time.

Well, need to supervise boys and our Wii. Will update more later.

Also need to find time for some Christmas shopping.
unclejimbo: (OMG WTF!?)

You were warned.

Well, plans didn't quite work out as we thought. Still the ham and stuff we had for dinner was delicious. Thanks, Tina! It was a great idea. I hope you get better soon.

It was a quiet day which was probably best for Xander this year. We can scale things up for next year barring a repeat of the Hamthrax. Among the high points of the day was doing some calls with Skype getting to talk and see family at their dinners. They all think Xander is cute and all are eager to meet him in person.

I also got to see and talk to my new SIL for the first time. She and my younger brother are expecting their first child, Zachary, in the next few weeks.

Overall, it was a pretty good day. Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!

My opinion? It is a self serving piece of work that tries to use religion as cover for being intolerant.

Let's look at what they're trying to defend.

1. the sanctity of human life Well, there are strong arguments for and against
abortion, which this item is referring to. Sadly, a good number of groups seem to
gloss over the use of Capital Punishment. Does this mean that they say it is wrong to
terminate an unwanted pregnancy, but just fine to off someone who's fully grown? And how
does that relate to your groups resistance to the use of birth control methods including

2. the dignity of marriage as the conjugal union of husband and wife No one is saying
that any religious group who does not want to sanction same sex marriages must do so. The
Separation of Church and State that so many christian groups rail against when they are
are attempting to impose their views on the rest of the country even if they do not agree
protects them from this. We are not a Christian Nation. We are a nation that has several
hundred sects of Christianity, several of which have no problem with sanctifying a
same-sex union.
Also, the 'conjugal union' phrase if troubling. What about couples who cannot have their
own children for whatever reason? Are they not truly married?

3. the rights of conscience and religious liberty You may worship as you wish. You
may not impose your ideology on others by force. That is one of the reasons people fled
Europe for America. The founding fathers did not want religious persecution in this

But to be clear, just because people do not agree with your message and do not listen to
you ramble on about such and so forth is not religious persecution. It is losing the
debate. Frankly, I find it sad that so many religious groups who stood up for civil
and human rights time and again fail to see the point on the issues of our day.

I know there are friends who will not agree with me. These are my points of view only, but this is also how I feel about things. All I will respect your views as long as you respect mine, even where they differ.

[ profile] kyburg took Xander in to school today while I was able to head back to work, 1 whole day this week, whee! I get a call from her about 9:30ish. Some bastard has hacked her identity and racked up charges on her debit card for over $600.

Added to being out most of this week with the Hamthrax (aka the H1N1 flu), needless to say she didn't take this well. She's just spent. I came home for a few hours to file paperwork with the bank and get the police report started. (Note: The people on the phone who informed us of this were less than sympathetic and left her feeling more than a little overwhelmed. Oddly enough, when I get on the phone and use my 'Big Person' voice and start asking very focused and pointed questions seeking a resolution, they were much more helpful. I really don't care if they liked me, I wanted answers. The folks at our branch here in Torrance, big help and very sympathetic. Helped me with the paperwork and corrected a huge mistake before anything was faxed in.)

She's tired and fed up with the world and afraid of what's around the next bend. *sigh* Glad I'm mostly over this crap. I'm gonna need to step up a bit more. Hopefully we'll be feeling better for Thanksgiving so we can salvage something from the holiday. (She's going to be working the day after.) Bad luck and worse timing.

Going to need to look into how much I have in savings this month.

This from [ profile] reannon.
United States Preventative Services Task Force recommends that screening mammograms and self exams not be done until after age 50 despite the number of women who have been diagnosed much earlier. LINK

Please contact your senators, congress critters and even the President about this. This cannot be allowed to stand. Do it for someone you love.
