Weekend Update
Apr. 20th, 2006 07:11 pmBeen a while since I had time to post. It has been an eventful weekend/trip to say the least.
Weekend before last, my aunt Ann died. She was in very poor health and I had not seen her in quite a while. She simply didn't want visitors. She had a back injury years ago while working as a nurse and her health stayed on a steady decline for the remainder of her life. Add in diabetes and possible prescription drug abuse and the possible causes of her passing become varied.
Or perhaps she just decided it was time to go. Hard to say. My family took it hard and they buried her last week before Easter.
kyburg and I flew out to Kentucky the day after the funeral. My mom told us not to worry, everyone knew we'd have been there if we could.
The flight out was pleasant, we flew Southwest. That was a different experience as I've flown SW on short hops, but never on such a long trip. They
really weren't that bad. Okay, we had to bring our own food along for the trip, but we've done that on other airlines, especially those who want to charge $10 for a stale chicken salad sandwich or some such. Plus there is nothing better to take on a plane than Onigiri. Small, tasty, and easy to manage. Try it sometime if you are able.
I was expecting rain the whole time we were there, but the storms seemed to be quite content to rain after dark so the skies were nice and sunny almost every day we were there. My mom and niece were looking well and I was able to hash out some things with my younger brother. And Rich, if you do see this, we can talk about whatever whenever. No worries.
The biggest 'drama' of Rochelle's confirmation was on Saturday when my older brother, her dad, decided he was going to be there. Rochelle had not invited him and he got rather pissed when he was told in no uncertain terms he should not be there. In a snit, he shut off Rochelle's cell phone and had a nice meal of sour grapes.
Beyond that, things went well. Donna and I have noticed Rochelle has picked up a few of her dad's more annoying habits. We'll have to talk to her about those next time we get her on the phone. Those behaviors should not be encouraged.
Oh well... Finished with this week. Always rough going back to work after time off. Plus I miss seeing my family.
