Well, we were running a bit late getting over to Diane's place for Easter lunch. I was trying to make up time when we saw the traffic slowing. Donna spotted the SUV on it's roof first, I noticed the other car with the front corner smashed as I navigated across traffic.
I get out and give
kyburg the cell phone to call for help and went to see what I could do. One fellow was trying to bust the window with his foot. Someone said we needed a tire-iron so I went to the trunk to get one. By the time I got back, they had the driver's door open and were working on the seat belt. I dropped the iron back in the trunk and went to help.
We helped the driver out and checked to make sure there was no one else in the car. He kept wanting to get up, but we convinced him to stay still until help arrived. I was at his head so I made sure it was supported and immobilized while we were lowering him and while he was down. He had a cell phone and called his wife. One of the other folks was given the phone and he told the driver's wife that everything was okay. Well, except for their RAV 4. It was totaled.
kyburg wants to make me out as a hero... I just did what I hope others would do for me. And I wasn't alone. There were people everywhere. Helping get him out, helping direct traffic, heck calling it in on their cell phones. The real heroes are the ones who took the time to get involved. Who didn't just drive by and say, "Aw, that's too bad..."
Am I a hero? Maybe, but I'm not the only one...
