Adoption news
Apr. 22nd, 2008 10:29 pmWent to Heartsent tonight to see what news there was. There was good news and bad news...
The Bad News: Likely travel to the People's Republic of China to get our daughter, 18-24 months from now or longer... Ugh!
The Good News: We were offered a 'Special Needs' adoption from Taiwan. He's 2 1/2 years old. Big brown eyes and has a hypothyroid condition that was discovered when he was born and had been treated since then. He's scheduled to be taken off the drugs and supplements after he turns 3 on Aug 16th.
The social worker still needs to sign off, but Val, who owns Heartsent, said that the social worker supported the plan and would be in touch with us shortly. If all goes as planned, we'll travel to Taiwan sometime around August! Best of all, we won't lose our place in line for the China adoption.
It's still going to be a LOT of money, but we have 401k accounts to take loans against. We may be putting together a fund raiser to help offset the cost of the plane tickets. ($1200 a piece) More details as they come in.
How I feel? Excited, scared, ready to get this thing moving. We have a picture of him and his dossier from Heartsent. Now we have a bunch of paperwork to do. And finger printing, and physicals (all copies notarized) and stuff.

Date: 2008-04-23 11:36 pm (UTC)The kid, he is cute as heck. Hypothyroid is totally dealable with so long as you can get the meds down his gullet on a daily basis (I do). Many, many congratulations!
