Waiting to Vote
Nov. 4th, 2008 08:46 amHad to come in at 7 AM which is when the polls open here in California. Looking forward to it and am trying my best to convince people here at work to vote no on Prop 8. It's a tough sell to some, they are so entrenched in their religion, all they can see is that "this is a sin and must be abolished!"
And when I remind some of them that this is a matter of state law as opposed to 'Gahd's' Law, they get all huffy and insist that they don't listen to the laws of men, only the laws of 'Gahd'.
*shakes head*
I was good, I kept my cool, but I was very dissapointed. I will admit I had more positive responses to my request than negative, but it would be nice to be able to reach everyone.
As such, I have a plan. And I'm going to need help to pull it off.
We need to put a ballot measure on the next election to ammend the California Constitution so that you need a 2/3rd majority to change the constitution in the future. It is what is required to add an ammendment to the U.S. Constitution and it makes sense. It should not be easy to ammend a state constitution. With a simple majority, a lot of stupid things, such as Prop 8, have the potential to be written into law with no other way to remove it than with another constitutional ammendment.
So, tell me what you think. And yes. I want to start this tomorrow.
