The Iranian co-joined twins passed away today. The doctors did everything humanly possible but could not control the bleeding in their brains...

Full Story

This is just so sad. The doctors were only giving them a 50/50 chance of surviving. The meshing of their blood vessels were just too much of an obstacle to overcome. But if anyone thinks that the people of Iran are heartless and cruel... Well read this. It is such a shame, but from all reports the women knew the risks and went ahead with the surgery full aware that this could be the outcome. My prayers are with their family today. I hope their courage will be some comfort to them as they try and get over this tragic loss...

I generally read journals before I read the news sites, so this was the first I'd heard about it. And yes, there are tears in my eyes. But as I read about in a half-dozen articles yesterday and the day before, the twins wanted to be separated, and were fully accepting of the fact that one or both might not survive. I'm glad they were still under the anasthesia, that they felt no pain or discomfort.

I listened to CNN a lot today and they never mentioned that. When I first heard about it on TV, I thought it was wonderful that they'd waited until modern medicine would give them a good chance of being separated without complications. Yes, I know separating cojoined twins, especially when joined at the head, is still very very risky, but I honestly thought they had a shot. :(
