Spent the weekend with [livejournal.com profile] ceolynand [livejournal.com profile] silver. nice quiet weekend lazing around and doing the geek thing with the computers.

That is unless the old Pentium Pro drives [livejournal.com profile] silver totally nuts before he leaves for the Bay area tomorrow...

Among other highlights:

My Uncle Steve turned up for a visit. He's kind of the black sheep of the family with a perpetual case of wanderlust. A bit flighty sometimes, but all in all a good fellow. I'm glad he showed up, we may get to see him again tomorrow.

TRW swap meet in Manhattan Beach. This is Geek central and the stuff you can get cheap is amazing. (Almost walked away with an HP P4 with a flat screen for $600 but I didn't have it on me at the time... Oh well, I'd rather have a VIAO anyways) Got an adapter for my laptop so I can use my USB connections to hook up to our home network. I'm sitting in the livingroom as I type this trying to remember when the Big O airs on Cartoon Network.

Borders had a sale that we couldn't turn down. Huck Finn, Don Quixote, Walden, Shakespeare Sonnets... We blew about $100 on books, and we got some really good titles. Much reading goodness.

And here's an [livejournal.com profile] unclejimbo news item. And you can be sure you saw it here first.

New Line Pictures are producing the prequel to the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Yes, the are making The Hobbit! And they are doing it right! (You can see the trailer at I-Film.com. Look for it under the Shorts category. It is the 13th most requested film online.

Smaug awakens December 16, 2006!

All I got for now. Hope you all are having a nice and safe Labor Day. If you feel like it, send some money to Jerry's Kids. I'm sure MDA could use the help and it is tax deductable.

I dunno about that trailer, man. I can tell you that those dragon scenes were from the movie "Dragonslayer", one of my all-time faves. That one scene where you see a head peeking up from beneath a rock is Peter MacNichol, who was in that movie.

Seems exciting, but knowing that those scenes were a mix from FotR and Dragonslayer, I have reason to be dubious. :/
