100 years ago almost to the minute. Sadly, the weather at Kitty Hawk today is rainy and cold. I don't think that the Ford replical of the Wright Flyer is going to go up today.

*sigh* I really wanted to see it fly too...

Still, it is pretty amazing that a couple of guys in a bicycle shop ushered in the age of aviation. I think they'd be amazed at the things we can do now.

Oh well...

"Rain, rain, go away. Come again another day..." ^^

I'd not realised until I saw the Google banner for the day, which is pretty nifty. Hope the weather improves so they can fly the thing.. and yes it is amazing, and when you think of the size of airliners etc today compared to the origins!

I volunteered at a Flight Fest this year in honor of 100 years of aviation. The festival consisted of various small planes and hot air balloons. Toward the end of the evening one of the hot air balloon captains made a comment over the mic that it's not REALLY the 100th year of flight, because the first hot air balloon flew 200 years ago long before Kitty Hawk. Heh. I was just wondering how many groans and swears were being said by hot air balloon enthusiast this past week when everyone kept mentioning Kitty Hawk.

Oh, btw, I found your journal via a lj search tool that does a weird 6 degree of seperation.

Well, nice to meet you. I just hope I'm not too boring... ^^

Perhaps I should have said 'Heavier Than Air' flight. The Montgolfier Brothers were in the air about the time of the American Revolution if I recall correctly. Oh well...
