Sucky Thursday...
Apr. 29th, 2004 10:01 pmOne of our students at the hospital, Monica, was removed from the program, 4 weeks shy of graduation. Not because of poor grades or performance, but because some little prick wanted to get someone in trouble. I won't go into details, but he is a marked man at Kaiser now. I doubt he will finish x-ray school because I know that no one in my department will teach him and we'll let all the other hospitals know what kind of character he has. Backstabbing little creep. Just because he couldn't take a little constuctive criticism? Grrrr...
She had some troubles getting used to things at the hospital last fall and they were talking about asking her to resign then but I stepped up and helped her through the rough spots where I could. She was great, confident and would have easily passed her test come June. Now she will have to see what other options there are for her to complete school. All she needs is a few crummy classes. Then she will be eligible to take the ARRT test.
It is nice that I am not the only one who is angry. Suggestions on how to deal with this turd ran from kicking his ass to strapping him to a fluoro table and turning it on for a few hours. My thought was to keep him on and make his life miserable before we failed him.
And he had the nerve to say it was a matter of ethics... *snort* If that were the case, his clinical instructor at the hospital wouldn't have had to learn of the even from a phone call. Ethics my ass, fucking coward!
On a nicer note, I have my reservation confirmed to fly in a B-17 this Sunday. I wish my camera wasn't broken but the video camera will be there so I can tape the experience.
I wish this bullshit at work hadn't happened.

Date: 2004-04-30 07:36 am (UTC)1. The whole event was over a matter of patient safety. Prick was there, witnessed the event did nothing to prevent it except report it to the director of the program, not anyone present - nor prevent the event from occurring in the first place. How big an issue of patient safety? She touched a piece of equipment she was not licensed for - instant expulsion from program. That big.
Who wants the Prick working around them on their license? If he sees something going wrong, he won't stop it - but he will get you fired for it.
2. She was working under the direction of her senior tech - and the radiologist. Patient was in distress, and it was a hot job and she was told to "expedite." Plenty of senior people present -
But this is not a matter for the hospital staff to have input on - ohhhh noooo -
3. Prick was hypersensitive to the criticism he received from the people in item 2 - so he decided to have at on his own. That's what he had taken away from the critique he received in class from the sempai in his program.
I've told Jim that the Prick isn't worth spending a lot of effort on - we need to help out the student on the short end of the stick. Jim knows this place very well - the same thing happened to him in school, oh more than twenty years ago. He went on to challenge the ARRT exam and has been a radiology tech since then. (Shoot, he was able to take the exams again three years ago and pass them to get licensed to work here in California - warning, he's smarter than he lets on.)
"Johnny has his eyes open during prayers..."
And WTF were you doing with YOUR eyes open during prayers, Bobby?
This stuff makes me retch.

Date: 2004-05-01 03:38 pm (UTC)The worst thing is that Monica was supposed to meet Pirrelli at the school and the coward didn't even have the balls to meet with her.
We may not be able to influence decisions at that school, but we can sure decide that allowing the school to use our hospital as a clinical site is not in our best interest.
