unclejimboRobo One is a robot kit from Japan that is just plain astounding.
Never mind walking up stairs, these things will stand on one leg and do somersaults for you on command. No gyros, only servos as used on radio controlled planes and cars.
The down side, at $1600+ it makes a damn expensive stocking stuffer.
