This is a post I never wanted to make...
Jul. 2nd, 2006 10:42 pmWe got home a little while ago from Anime Expo... Spice, our Cairn Terrier was missing...
As I searched the neighborhood, one of my neighbors asked if I was looking for a little dog. I said she was a light gray, a terrier...
He told me there was a dog like that dead at the corner of Raymond and Torrance...
Poor doggie... She never knew what hit her and we'll never know why she decided to get out... Donna's posting a picture that I'm going to link to here below...
I'm sorry, Spice. I wish you were still here. I love you...
Good bye. (Take good care of her, Cliff, where ever you are.)

Date: 2006-07-03 06:01 am (UTC)I'm sorry to hear that.
She may have been, as Donna often said, a pushy broad, but she knew she was loved, I'm thinking.
If you need anything, let me know.
Both of you know how to get in touch with me.

Date: 2006-07-03 08:00 pm (UTC)My dog did something similar in 2003, getting hit by oncoming traffic in the middle of the day. No one knew she was missing until the Spca called. It was so fast.
This may not be comforting, but she was also at the end of her life. I've heard that dogs make an effort at the end of their lives to journey back to where they were born, as a final bit. Perhaps that's what Spice was doing, when she got hit. I read Donna's journal, and she mentioned that Spice was sticking very close to you both, or clamboring to get out. These, unfortunately, are the same signs our dog Katie exhibited right before the end. We think it was her way of saying goodbye. She obviously loved you very much.
I hope you and Donna are okay. RIP, Spice.

Date: 2006-07-04 12:16 am (UTC)My dears, words fail. Spice was a class act. I mean a real prize. And as I play the memories, as few yet vivid as they are, I think I can say with some qualification and standing.
Spice'll be missed. She'll be the first non-human I light a candle for.
