kyburg to see her mom and drop off her aunt who we met at LAX yesterday morning. Donna had gotten me a coupon for a flight on a glider (one hour-hands on!!!) so I figured what the hell...
So there I was at 10,000 ft in a glider releasing the tow line...
What a rush. My pilot, Leo, was a retired airline pilot who regularly flies his own glider. He told me how he would ride the thermals and fly from the LA area all the way down to the Mexican border and back. He said it took about 3 1/2 hours... Of course he had less traffic to deal with that those of us who have to drive down towards San Diego... :)
I took the controls shortly after we dropped our tow line. It's pretty trippy seeing an airplane flying right in front of you and only 200 ft away. Not a fast flight, after we dropped the tow, we averaged about only 45 mph on the way back down. As it was, I flew the glider around over Hemet for about 20-25 minutes before Leo took the glider and showed me what it could do. Sadly it wasn't very warm this morning, otherwise we would have been able to ride some thermals but what can you do. I think I did pretty well flying it and Leo thought if I wanted, I wouldn't have too much trouble with getting my license to fly gliders. (About 9-10 hours to solo.) *Sigh* Another thing to do if I ever win the lottery.
Playing Final Fantasy 3 on my DS these days. I am pleasantly surprised by the level of the graphics and the story is a lot of fun. All I have to do now is build up my guys to high enough levels to stomp the bad guys soundly. (Here monster, monster monster... I have something for you...)
Lunch at Mimi's was nice, as usual, and we got the check from Donna's mom.
Sadly, back to work tomorrow. So now, time for sleep.
