Clinton vs Obama

Okay people, I know that feelings are running hot because we all support our favorite candidates. But lets all remember the big picture before we all go off half cocked.
According to the latest Gallup poll, 28% of Clinton supporters and 19% of Obama supporters state they would vote for John McCain if their candidate was not the nominee.
Folks. If McCain get into the White House, we will have more of the same that we have suffered through for the last 8 years. McCain has signed onto just about all of George W. Bush's policies most notoriously the ones regarding torture. Do we REALLY want that for ourselves and our children?
Well, do you? Be honest now.
That's what I thought. Think about this clearly people. Even though I have real reservations about a President Hillary, if she were to get the nod in Denver, I would vote for her. I'd prefer Obama, but to be honest, I would have preferred Edwards over them both. Just sayin'.
We have a lot of work to do, and if another Republican gets into the White House, we will lose the rest of the Supreme Court for at least a generation. That means bye-bye civil rights, the right to choose, the right to privacy in our homes and on the internet... All of it. Gone. Probably for good and you can forget about anyone prosecuting Bush/Cheney and their cronies.
So... What is your choice out there? It's time for us all to forget about 'ME' for a bit and to put the needs of our community, our country and our world first.

Date: 2008-03-27 09:04 pm (UTC)The other problem I had with voting for McCain is that he now has Rove and Mehlman working for him... which means YET MORE of the same dirty tricks and tactics.

Date: 2008-03-27 09:12 pm (UTC)I'd sooner vote for Satan's Evil Twin than for Hillary... I'd also give Hillary the nod before voting for ANY Republican that promised to 'stay the course,' even if God Himself appeared in the form of a burning Bush (ooooh, I wish!) to endorse said candidate!

Date: 2008-03-27 11:27 pm (UTC)Did they do a baseline poll? Ask the voters in the Democratic primaries if they would vote for McCain in November even if their preferred Democratic candidate was the nominee? This poll would only be interesting in relation to that poll.
Besides this, the Presidential general election in the US always seems to be more a test of personality and character rather than issues. Otherwise you would not have had voters who preferred almost all of Gore's or Kerry's positions in polls voting for Bush instead. So McCain is quite right in that the general election will be all about character.

Date: 2008-03-28 12:39 am (UTC)I'm in much the same camp as far as preferring Edwards over everyone, and Obama over Hillary, but I actually do have good reasons pertaining to her voting record and public policies for refusing to vote for her even if it does come down to a contest between the lesser of two evils. Frankly, that by no means means that I will vote for McCain, either, but I am more likely to vote third party in the hopes of giving one of them the 5% national vote necessary for federal assistance come the next election. Honestly, though, I don't think it will matter who I vote for in that instance, because I don't think Hillary would have a chance of winning it anyway. She's made way too many enemies and while many of those are currently putting aside their votes for dislike of McCain, they may well be persuaded to vote for him for the mere basis of hating Hillary more. I don't see good things coming if either of them wins the election, frankly, and dearly hope it doesn't come to that.
