unclejimbo: (stop being afraid)

This is addressed to all of those who live in California.

Proposition 8 is a piece of Discriminatory Garbage that should never have found its way onto a ballot. People deserve equal rights, they should be allowed to marry. It should not matter if the couple are hetero, bi-, gay or lesbian.

The ads on television stating that churches could lose their tax-exempt status are lies. Period. We all know that the Separation of Church and State, which the radical right so despises, protects them from such action and prevent governments from dictating to religious organizations.

The ads about the 'Educating Our Young To Embrace Gay Marriage' is based on laws in Massachusetts, not California, and are just plain insulting. These are not better than the ads and handouts that were circulated during the 50s, 60s and 70s opposing the Civil Rights Movement.

Don't be fooled. These are playing on fears, not facts. Stopping Proposition 8 is the most important thing you can do this election year, equal to electing Barack Obama as President.

Please help and spread the word.

As one straight man who is married to one woman, let me tell you that I hate the ideas behind Prop 8 with the passion of that wildfire burning right now!

What 'n' consenting adults do together is their own business, and a secular government has no business trying to define marriage by a standard that is, in its essense, purely religious.

If something comes on the telly at work, my usual response is a somewhat vocal 'you've GOT to be kidding.'

And assent has been heard 'round the room.

I wish I could vote on this!
I will be proud to teach my son to embrace and respect any marriage, regardless of the genders of the people involved!
