unclejimboDonna mentioned the flood in our kitchen and bathroom. Had folks out to see how bad the carpets were screwed... Oh brother.
After a bit of checking, they found that the carpet in the dining room and across half the living room was fucked. Also the carpet in our bedroom which is right next to the upstairs bath. And all the linoleum as well... Grrr...
Now why did this happen, you ask... Well, the Home Owners Assn. (may they burn in Hell) told us almost immediately that it was a leaking toilet and our problem. Well, the problem with that was our toilet didn't leak and the flood happened when Donna and I were both a work. (The cat does not know how to flush though we are still hopeful...)
The big clue was when one of the carpet folks put his hand through our kitchen ceiling. It had the consistency of oatmeal. So we called in the plumber. After some investigation we found out the true culprit.
A neighbor, whom we share a wall with had a backed up toilet and called Roto-Rooter to clear the pipe. Well, they cleared it. But in the process broke it. But they didn't tell anyone what happened.
So on the plus side, Donna and I don't have to fork over the dough to pay for the repairs. The bad news, it's gonna take a while to dry out our house and replace all the carpeting and linoleum and we'll have to remove our furniture and bookshelves to get the carpeting changed out.
Oh the humanity. We're at the Double Tree tonight. Will talk later.
