Iron Chef America
Apr. 24th, 2004 12:05 amJust finished watching the new Iron Chef program that Food Network has created. Unlike the "Iron Chef USA" which aired very briefly on Fox, this show was done much closer to the original format.
There are 3 Iron Chefs in this new Kitchen Stadium. Wolfgang Puck, Mario Batali and the infamous Bobby Flay.
First battle: Flay vs Iron Chef French, Sakai. Ingredient: Trout. Winner: Flay?
Flay?!? WTF? I watched the show, I heard their comments, I saw the dishes. I might give them a pass on what they preferred in flavor but when they give Bobby Flay higher scores on presentation than Sakai there is just something wrong. Flay served one of his dishes on a skillet for crying out loud! Sakai put forth dishes that were incredible to look at.
Grrr...
At least the moron, Flay, didn't jump up on the counter this time. Still, I'll give them credit, they captured the essence of the original show quite well. I hope Food Network picks the show up for several seasons. It will destroy Survivor and other "reality" shows. Maybe it will teach Americans about what real presentation is all about.

Date: 2004-04-24 07:28 am (UTC)Bobby Flay is an arrogant asshole, and I won't watch anything on the Food Network that he's on.
It's a shame, though... since i like Alton Brown, and I hear he was doing the commentating.

Date: 2004-04-24 10:03 am (UTC)Alton Brown was the perfect choice for the Play-by-Play commentary. He wasn't overboard, he just reported what he saw.
Overall, I'll give Iron Chef America an 8 out of 10. The new Kitchen Stadium they created I'll give a 9 out of 10.
