Battlestar Galactica
Dec. 8th, 2003 10:10 pmWatched the new Battlestar Galactica on Sci-Fi Channel. I know there are 'purists' out there who believe that the S-F Channel should have gone with something closer to the original, but in all honesty, I liked it. It was gritty and there were character conflicts and development far beyond anything in the original series.
I liked what they did with the Cylons although having their origins changed so radically had me reminded of the Matrix in some ways.
The characters were all flawed and very human. They had to make tough choices in difficult situations. In its own right, this Galactica is superior in many ways to the original series, not just in the special effects, but in overall writing. As far as the FX goes, these Cylons are totally bitchin'!
Baltar is more of a patsy instead of an outright villain. It will be interesting to see where they go from here in their story development.
I enjoy the Richard Hatch (aka Apollo) Battlestar Galactica novels. I also enjoy this series from what I've seen so far.
kyburg wishes they had used these people and story to create an entirely new series instead of retellng the BSG story again. In a way I agree with her, but I also think it is fun to compare and contrast both programs. Overall, this Galactica is far better than I was lead to expect.
